Biography

Altha Bernice was born on 19 December 1903 in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota, United States. She was the daughter of Nelson Adelbert Eggleston and Adah Bell (Hasty) Eggleston. [1]

In the 1910 census Altha (age 6) was the daughter of Ned A Eggleston in East Ismay, Custer, Montana, United States.[2]

In the 1920 census Bernice (age 16) was the single daughter of Nelson Eggleston in Kittitas, Washington, United States.[3] Ancestry initially had her indexed as Burnes, not Bernice.[4]

Altha Bernice Eggleston (age 18), daughter of N A Eggleston and Ada B Hasty, married James L Gupton (age 20), son of John W Gupton and Celia A Paine, on 5 Jan 1922 in Ellensburg, Kittitas, Washington, United States.[5][6][7] James was born abt 1901 and died Jul 12 1937. [8] Altha and James divorced before the 1930 Census.

They had children, both seemed to have later changed their names from Gupton to their stepfsther Luce, including the following.

  1. Louise Marie, b Feb 6 1925[9][10]
  2. James Leslie Luce, b Jul 10 1927, [11] d Aug 11 2004.

In the 1930 census Bernice (age 26) was the divorced daughter of Nelson A Eggleston in Aberdeen, Grays Harbor, Washington, United States.[12]

Bernice Gupton married Percy O Luce on 19 Nov 1933 in Grays Harbor, Washington, United States.[13] Percy was 1st married to Lillian Geraldine England in 1918 and had 4 children: Percy, Harry, Donna and Vail. Bernice and Percy divorced on 29 Oct 1948 in Kootenai, Idaho, United States.[14]

They adopted at least one child:

  1. Lelan Jay Luce, b Jul 15 1945, d Nov 27 1995. Note: Find a Grave has Michael Wayne Kelly, that he changed his name to[15]

In the 1940 census Bernice (age 36) was the wife of Percy Luse in Elmerton Election Precinct, Okanogan, Washington, United States.[16]

Barney J Kropp married Altha B Luce on 26 Mar 1959 in Vancouver, Clark, Washington, USA.[17] They divorced on 26 Mar 1962 in Marion, Oregon, USA.[18] Altha must have returned to last name of Luce.

Altha Luce died (age 75) in 22 Jan 1978 residing in Flathead, Montana.[19][20][21]

She was buried in Masonic Cemetery, Elma, Grays Harbor County, Washington.[22]
