Hester was born in the winter of 1635-1636, the first female child born in Hartford, Connecticut, a newly founded settlement on the Connecticut River. ^[1] Hester Kelsey was born to William and Hester (Unknown) Kelsey, followers of Rev Hooker. ^[1]

Hester Kelsey married 1) James Eggleston, (b. say 1620) ; by Jan 1656 [Grant 36; Manwaring 1:300] [TAG 68:208-15]. After the death of her first husband Hester married James Eno and then John Williams, so that (as George McCracken put it) "she was surnamed Williams at her death, not, as so often claimed, at her birth" [TAG 35:21]. Hester had nine children with her first husband, James Eggleston, and a tenth child with her second husband, James Eno. There are no known children from her third marriage, to John Williams. ^[1]
