Francis Edward Ehrenfeldt (Frank Edward Field Sr.) studied in his father's footsteps and worked as an accountant for Price Waterhouse.
Francis eventually immigrated and permanently settled in New York in 1906, Long Island (last). In 1921, he married Clara Hopkinson and had a son Frank E. Jr. As an accountant, Frank Sr. was able to work throughout the depression and aid his extended family.
Some years after Frank had settled in the US, they changed the family name from Ehrenfeldt, to Ehrenfeld dropping the 't' making it easier to spell. Finally the name was changed to 'Field'. Percy, Franks brother, would retain the Ehrenfeldt surname as did the remaining family.
After the passing of his wife Clara's father John Hopkinson, Clara's mother Catherine nee Ramsdale Hopkinson would come to stay with the family until her death. From this period on, Catherine would wear a black mourning dress and a black necklace with a locket carrying her husband's photo inside. The funeral would be held at the family home with an open casket.
Francis' wife Clara Hopkinson was a registered nurse and diligently brought Frank back to health after a heart attack. To show his gratitude, he bought Clara a new car that she had wanted. Her husband Frank some years afterwards, died from a 2nd heart attack. Unfortunately Francis hadn't properly prepared for this eventuality in advance.
Frank Edward Ehrenfeldt Sr. was an avid sportsman, a brilliant accountant and a very good father.
