Biography

Early Years

Sarah E. "Sallie" Elder was born 15 April 1845 at Carroll County, Missouri. Though, census records would indicate that she was born in 1846.[1][2][3][4][5][6] In 1850, she was listed as age 4, in the household of Bailey Elder, located in District 15, Carroll County, Missouri. [3] In 1860, the family was living in Morris Township, where she was listed as age 14 and attending school. [4]

Married Life

Oliver Elliott and Sarah Elder were married on 6 October 1863, in Ray County, Missouri.[2][7] They rented a farm west of Bogard, in Carroll County. It was known as the Brooks farm (in 1974, the land was owned by Harold Knotts).[8] Sarah, age 24, appeared on the census of 1870 at Morris Township, Carroll County, living with Oliver and four of her children. [5]

Death

Sarah E. Elder died in Carroll County, on 18 December 1873 at age 27. She was buried at Smith Cemetery, in Carroll County. Her grave stone, erroneously, gives her year of death as 1874. She was buried beside three of her children, all of whom died as infants.[1][2][6]
