Joanna Elder was born on 11 Oct 1835 and baptized on 3 Nov 1835 at Kirkaldy, Fife, in Scotland as "Joanna Elder". She was a daughter of George Elder and Joanna Hadow Lang.
Joanna married Robert Barr Smith (1824-1915) in 1856[1]. The marriage record showed her name as "Joanna Lang" which was actually her mother's maiden name. Did someone get confused between mother and daughter, both named Joanna? (Oddly, too, www.familysearch.org doesn't show the place of marriage but says one must go to an LDS Family History Center in order to see the "marriage notice".)
Joanna and Robert had thirteen children, six of whom died in infancy [2].
The couple migrated to South Australia, the date not found.
Joanna died in 1919 at Adelaide and was buried at Mitcham City, South Australia[3] in a shared grave with her late husband Robert[4].
