Dorothy Olive Stoffel
A graveside interment service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 27 at Sunset Heights Memorial Gardens, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church in Tillamook, for Dorothy Olive Stoffel, who passed away Nov. 18, 2010, in Manzanita at age 89.
Dorothy was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Washington, Kan., to Harry and Olive (Gauby) Elder.
She attended high school there and college at Morrowville/McPherson College.
She married Laurence Stoffel in Washington, Kan., on April 5, 1942.
In Kansas, she taught elementary school classes until they moved to Tillamook.
In 1952, they moved to Seattle, where she taught kindergarten classes.
They moved to Kent, Wash., and started a church - Lake Sawyer Church - while also operating a trout farm.
In 1989, they retired and moved back to Bay City.
Dorothy was a member of Garibaldi Church of Christ. She played the organ and piano for the church. She also hosted many Bible studies at her home and was a youth leader.
Mrs. Stoffel is survived by son Kenneth Stoffel of Redding, Calif.; brother Melvin and wife Edna Mae "Eddie" Elder of La Grande; sisters Gerry Sherin and husband Bill of Tillamook, and Shirley Ann Lane of Tigard; and grandchildren Andrew and Kristie Stoffel.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence Stoffel, and son, Larry Stoffel.
Donations to Tillamook Hospice or to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated, in care of Waud's Funeral Home.
