Familysearch shows his DOB 1709[3], which means he is not the son of John Elderkin.
This same DOB appears on Ancestry.com, along with a spouse Sarah Hibbert, married 25 Mar 1784 in Scotland, Windham, Connecticut, who emigrated to Canada and died in 1786 in Windsor, Hants, Nova Scotia, Canada. No sources are provided for this information.
