Ansil/Ansel/Ancil Winslow was born in Fairmount, Indiana, the son of a farmer named Nixon Winslow and his wife Cynthia Ann (Jay) Winslow. Nixon and Cynthia were Quakers. He married Ida Elliott and had three children, one of which may have died young. He worked as a farmer, like his father.
In the 1870 Census,[1] Isaac Elliott, a married white male age 34, was found living in Center Township, Grant, Indiana. With him was his wife Mary, age 28, and an infant child recorded as male but who by birth year and other records was probably daughter Ida. Isaac worked as a farmer, and his father Isaac, listed in the immediately previous household, was also a farmer.
Ida Elliott In the 1880 Census,[2] Isaac Elliott, a married white male age 42, was found living in Center Township, Grant, Indiana. With him was his wife Mary, age 37; daughter Ida, age 11; son Asa, age 7; and Ulysses Bonham, a 17 year old white male farm laborer. Isaac worked as a farmer.
In the 1910 Census,[3] Ancil Winslow, a 45 year old married white male born in Indiana, was found living in Fairmount Township, Grant County, Indiana. With him were wife Ida, age 41; son "I. Ren", age 16; and son Marcus, age 8, all born in Indiana. Ancil and Ida had been married for 20 years, a first marriage for both; Ancil owned and worked his own farm. Ida was the mother of three children, only two still living.
In the 1920 Census,[4] Ancil Winslow, a 55 year old married white male born in Indiana, was found living in Fairmount Township, Grant County, Indiana. With him were wife Ida, age 51; son Isaac Ren, age 26; son Marcus, age 19; and Ida's mother Mary R Elliott, age 74, all born in Indiana. Ancil was a farmer and Isaac Ren and Marcus were farm laborers.
In the 1930 Census,[5] Ancil Winslow, a 66 year old married white male born in Indiana, was found living in Fairmount Township, Grant County, Indiana. With him was his wife Ida, age 62. They owned a home worth $1500. Neither had an occupation or employment listed.
