Biography

Early Life

Agnes was born in Edinburgh on 10 February 1764, the daughter of Andrew Elliot[1] and Elizabeth Plumsted.[2] She raised in colonial America where her father was the last Lieutenant Governor of New York. She returned with her family to Scotland in 1783 following American independence.[3]

Marriage & Family

She married Sir David Carnegie, 4th Baronet of Pitcarrow in Edinburgh 23 April 1783. [4] [1] The couple and their twelve children lived between Kinnaird Castle and their house in Gloucester Place, London. Agnes was herself a talented pastel artist.[5]
