Biography

Margaret was born in 1745. The daughter of John Burd and Elizabeth Elliott. Before her marriage, she was known as Margaret Burd Elliott. When she married William Thomas Ramsey, she became Margaret Ramsey. Because of her use, in her maiden name, of both her father's and mother's last names, some confusion has ensued about her parentage with some records showing her as the daughter of Thomas Elliott and Mary Johnston who were, however, her uncle and aunt. In the face of the "uncertainty", we believe that parentage as stated above is the more likely as otherwise, there would not by any way of accounting for her use of the surname Burd. She passed away in 1833. [1]

She was the mother of: Alexander Ramsey, Benjamin Ramsey, Elizabeth Ramsey, Jean (Ramsey) Logan, Margaret (Ramsey) Locke, Robert Ramsey, Agnes (Ramsey) Parks, William Ramsey Jr., John Ramsey and Matthew Ramsey

In the absence of exact birth years for her children, the are listed as being "Before 1795" when she turned 50. Likely, they actually occurred about every second year from about 1763 to 1785.

Elliot-1465 and Burd-126 appear to represent the same person because: William Ramsey is her husband and hopefully this will stop the confusion of how her name is presented and which is her true maiden name. Her parents are John and Elizabeth Burd.

Elliot-1465 and Burd-126 appear to represent the same person because: I believe these represent the same person - same birth, same death, same places, same spouse.

Elliott-213 and Burd-126 do not represent the same person because: Elliott is from Iowa, ramsey, burd is form Maryland. Other than the name elliot, I can find no similarities.

Elliott-213 and Burd-126 appear to represent the same person because: THIS PROPOSAL IS MADE IN ORDER TO EFFECT THE CHANGE PROPOSED AS FOLLOWS:

"Bob Tonsmeire has proposed a merge between Margaret Burd Ramsey (Elliot-213) and Margaret Ramsey (Burd-126). Click here to compare them side-by-side. Bob says Elliot-213 and Burd-126 appear to represent the same person because: A discussion of the discrepancy regarding Margaret's parentage is included in the text for Burd-126. On that basis, I suggest that this merge proceed with parents as in Burd-126." According to the above proposal, it would appear that Burd 126 should be the surviving record.
