John Elliott was born to John Elliott and Joanna (Stone) Elliott and baptised on 7 September 1723 in South Pool, Devon, England. [1] The eldest of five children, and third in a line of 'John's, he named his first son 'John' as well (who named his first son 'John' as well, and the name has been carried down through the succeeding generations).
John married Mary Cornish in Dartmouth, Devon, England on 6 January 1748. [2] Together the couple had seven children: John, Mary, Elizabeth, Joan, William (who was buried on his first birthday), another William, and Ann.
John died at the relatively young age of 45 and was buried on 18 January 1768 in South Pool. [3]
