Are there two different Davids in this family? Needs clarification.
Johnston Elliott was born in Pennsylvania and christened on June 25,1780 at the Upper West Conococheague Presbyterian Church in Mercersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. [1][2] and moved to Kentucky before 1807.[3]
In 1807, Johnson Ellit owned 175 acres of land on Fishing Creek in Casey County, Kentucky, the survey entered by John Ellet. He owned three slaves and a horse.[4]
In 1807, a John Ellit owned 294 acres on Fishing Creek, the deed filed by Mary Ellet. This man is shown to own 54 slaves and a horse.[5]
The 1808 Tax List of Casey County shows Johnson Ellit with two claims:[6]
-175 acres on Fishing Creek, entered by Johnson Ellit. He owned three horses. No slaves are listed. One white male over 21 is listed on this property, which may be where he lived.
-290 acres on Fishing Creek, entered by Mary Ellit. No slaves or horses are listed.
A Bashay Ellit is also listed for 1808 as owning two properties.[7]
Johnston Ellot lived in Casey County, Kentucky in 1810. Another Johnston Elliott appears in Lincoln County, Kentucky. His household included:
He married Susannah Austin in Liberty, Casey County on February 17, 1811.[8] [9]
The 1814 Tax List of Casey County shows Johnson Ellot with two properties:[10]
-175 acres on Fishing Creek, the name entered and [patented?] by himself. He his land was worth $12/acre.
-120 acres on Fishing Creek, name entered and [patented? by Mary Ellot. One male over 21 is listed on the property, so apparently he lived here. He owned three slaves and his land was valued at $12/acre. The tax value is $690.
One Johnston Elliott appears in the 1820 Kentucky Census in Liberty, Casey County. It indicates that the household consists of 3 male children under the age of 9, 1 male age 26 to 44, 1 female age 0-9, 1 female age 26-44, Since records show that Johnson did not marry Susan Brown until 1822, this woman must be Susanna Austin, suggesting her death date is between 1820 and 1822. 1 person is engaged in agriculture. [11][12]
A Barbary Elliott is listed on same page as Johnston two lines after him. Her household included 2 male children age 0-9, 1 female child age 0-9, 1 female age 26-44, 1 female age 45 and over. [13][14]
Johnson Elliott married Susanna Brown, February 7, 1822 in Casey County..[15][16]
On May 30, 1822, the book of Grantees in the Kentucky Land Warrant Group (book L, p. 73) shows, Johnson Elliott had a survey of 50 acres on land on Fishing Creek.[17][18][19]
The Grantee, Johnston Elliott, received a grant of 50 acres on April 25, 1923. It was on Fishing Creek in Lincoln County. [20]
Johnston (Jnstn) Elliott's household in Casey County, Kentucky[21] There were two boys under the age of 5, one between the ages of 10 and 15, two between the ages of 15 and 20, and one man between the ages of 40 and 50. There were two girls between the ages of 5 and 10, one between 10 and 15, and one woman between 30 and 40.

It seems that Johnston Elliott was still alive in 1850 when the U.S. Census was conducted.
In Casey County Kentucky, Johnson Elliot, age 68, born in Pennsylvania was a farmer with property worth $4000. Susan Elliott, age 60, was from South Carolina. We don't know if these are children or spouses because that column was not filled out, but also in the household were 6 others, all born in Kentucky. They were Susan Elliot, age 26; David Elliot, age 25; Gran G. Elliot, age 21; Brown Elliot, age 19; George Elliot, age 17; and Esther Ann Elliot, age 13. Johnson stated that all the sons were farmers. Esther, George, and Brown had attended school that year. [22] Kentucky Slave Schedules 1850 Casey County, Johnson Elliot owned six slaves: A woman 26 years of age, 17-year-old young man, three boys aged 10, 8, and 6, and a girl, age 4.[23]
In 1961, A.C. Elliott remembered: Sisters Susan Brown and Louisian Brown married Elliotts. Susan Brown married Johnson Elliott, while Louisian Brown married David Elliott. Old Tommy Brown lived on Fishing Creek and was the Daddy of David, Bailey, Frank, George, and Sookey (who married Johnson Elliott son of the original Johnson Elliott). [Were Sookey, Susan, and Susannah all the same person?]
1n 1978, Montie Elliott wrote:
It appears that Johnson Elliott and Susannah Austin had five children: Johnson, Thomas, Betsy, David and Austin. Records are conflicting, showing Susannah Brown as the mother of a David, and six other children.
Montie Elliott (1978) shows Austin marrying an Austin (?) and Catherine Black. Johnson Jr. married Deborah Bastin. David as the child of Johnson Elliott and Susannah Brown.
Montie’s family group records:
Johnson Elliott married Susannah Austin Feb. 17. 1811.
Their children were: 1. Johnson Jr., married Deborah Bastin; 2. Austin, married first (Unknown,) Second, Catherine Black. See Austin Elliott's profile for correct marriage information. 3. Thomas, married Polly Ann King 12/24/1840. 4. Betsy
Second Marriage: Johnson Elliott married Susannah Brown 2/7/1852.
Their children were 1. Susan, married David Trowbridge. 2. David, married first Nancy L. Brown, second Sally Jane Butts. 3. Lee, married Elizabeth King 1/181852. ([another person] had Grant or Green Lee – my father did not name a Grant but he named a Lee). 4. Brown, not married. 5. George, married Elizabeth Carman 1/23/1860. 6. Ester Ann, married Harvey Floyd 4/17/1860. 7. Jane, married Hugh Barnett 3/31/1850 (She was not mentioned in the 1850 Census).[24][25]
