Portland Locals.
PORTLAND, Feb. 10.––Mrs. J. W. Davis, of Davisville, Preston Co., Mrs. Rush McMillen, of Summerset [sic], Pa., Mrs. Lewis, of Taylor Co., and Sam’l and Wm. Graham, of Grafton, are here to pay their last tribute of respect to their deceased mother, “Aunt Sally Crane.”
LATER.––The funeral took place from the M. E. Church, whither the remains were followed by an unusually large concourse of friends and relatives, who were addressed by the Rev. Mr. Sanford, Pastor. I confess I cannot forego this opportunity of expressing my highest admiration for both speaker and sermon. From the words, “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord,” the audience was gently borne back to the time when matter was quickened by the spirit of God and man appeared, the master-piece of His handiwork; and then, in simple, grand review, were brought down to the present, and made to almost realize how like a mighty turbulent sea the earth would quiver with human life, were all who have died to be brought into existence; for “I saw a company that no man could number.” And then in sublime and softened accents we were carried with majestic eloquence above the dashing waves of life, and thence upward still, until all “His chosen seed” (with the deceased) seemed to enter the portals of everlasting peace. “Henceforth for they shall rest from their labor.” The services were concluded at the Portland cemetery.

She is buried in the Terra Alta Cemetery, Terra Alta, Preston County, WV. (The town of Terra Alta and cemetery there were known as Portland at that time.)
