Gilbert Eliott was the eldest son of Sir William Eliott, 2nd Baronet

His mother was Sir William's second wife Margaret, daughter of Charles Murray of Hadden, Roxburghshire. [1]

Sir Gilbert Eliott of Stobs, 3rd Bt. was the son of Sir William Eliott of Stobs, 2nd Bt. and Elizabeth Scott. [2] He married Eleanor Elliot, daughter of William Elliot of Wells, in Roxburghshire on 14th April 1702.

They had had eight sons -

General George Augustus was the youngest. He was created Lord Heathfield for his gallant defence of Gibraltar in 1787,

Sir Gilbert Elliot died in 1764.
