Robert was married twice. His first wife (unknown) died just 13 months after they were married in 1665. He married 2) Grace Burris and they had 7 children:
Robert was a member of Bacon's Army when the colonists rebelled against Governor Berkley. (See Bacon's Rebellion). After the death of Bacon, many were hanged but Robert escaped across the Blue Ridge Mountains with a company of Rangers. He settled in Augusta County.
