Biography

Place names

References to Franklin County and Cumberland County are the same place. Franklin County was formed from Cumberland County September 9, 1784.[1] Peters Township was part of Cumberland County until Franklin County was established. Mercersburg was in Peters Township until Montgomery Township was created in 1781.

Christening

Andrew Maise Elliott was christened on October 25, 1772 at the Upper West Conococheague Presbyterian Church, Mercersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Johnston Elliott. Because his middle name is the same as Rebecca Mayes, it seems likely that he is the son of the Johnston married to her, not a different one. There were several Johnston Elliotts in church and county records. [2]
