Biography

David William Elliott was born 13 June 1833 to parents William Elliott and Elizabeth Andrews. [1]

David married Sarah Jane O'Neal about 1854 in Rapides Parish, Louisiana. No marriage record exists as the courthouse was burned to the ground during the Civil War.

David and Sarah appear on the 1860 census in Spring Hill (now Forest Hill, Rapides Parish. [2]

In 1870 the family is living in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. David had served in the Confederate Army in the Civil War and they evidently moved for a few years to St. Landry Parish which is just south of Rapides. [3]

In 1880 David and Sarah remain in Spring Hill. [4]

David William Elliott died and is buried in the Butter Cemetery in Forest Hill, Rapides Parish, Louisiana. On the FindAGrave memorial, there are details about his birth, death and a partial list of his siblings and children, as well as his parents and his wife. [5]

Research Note

David's birth date is 13 June 1833 and this date is engraved on his tombstone. Looking carefully, the last 3 in 1833 is definitely a 3 but FindAGrave has interpreted it as an 8. I wrote to them explaining the mistake and asked someone to please take another look. The reply was that their information was different with no other information or sources. A family member contacted me asking why FindAGrave had the wrong date and I explained the situation. Perhaps in the future, this can be resolved.
