Research Notes
The earliest record I have found for Benjamin W Elliott is the purchase of land in Nov 1850 and recorded June 1852 in St Clair County, Alabama. He is listed in the 1850 census which was taken in December 1850.
He and his wife are both indicated as born in North Carolina. The oldest presumed son on the 1850 census Cyrus R. b. about 1836 in Tennessee. The other 7 children are shown born in Georgia from 1837 to 1849.
No other census records have been found of him that I am aware. His wife is listed as the head of household in the 1866 Alabama State census which indicates he is deceased.
Many people are showing him to be the son of Humphrey Elliott and his wife Cynthia Elliott however I have not found any records to support this. They did have a son named Benjamin Elliott a few years younger than this Benjamin. I find it doubtful they would name 2 sons close in age Benjamin.
A great great great grandson has a YDNA Big Y700 test at Family Tree DNA and result was R-FT179898.
