Biography

Mary Belle Elliott was born 5 May 1882 at Carroll County, Missouri. She was a daughter of Oliver Elliott and Elizabeth Frances Warren. [1] [2] [3]

Bell M. Elliott appeared as a daughter in the household of Olliver Elliott on the 1900 U.S. Census at Moss Creek Township, Carroll County, Missouri. She was listed as 18 years old, and born May 1882 in Missouri. She could read and write. [2]

Wiley E. Cooper and Belle Elliott obtained a marriage license 4 November 1906 at Carrollton, Carroll County, Missouri. [4] They married on the 7th of November at Carrollton.[1]

Belle Cooper appeared as wife in the household of Wiley Cooper on the 1910 U.S. Census at Kingston Township, Caldwell County, Missouri. She was listed as 27 years old, and born in Missouri. It was reported that she had been married six years (her first marriage). All of her three children were still living. She could read and write. She was living with her husband, and three children. Vader Gillespie Cox married Mary Belle Elliott about 1911 at Missouri. This estimate is based on the birth date of Belle’s first child with Vader Cox, about 1912.

Belle Cox appeared as wife in the household of Vader Cox on the 1930 U.S. Census at Hamilton Township, Caldwell County, Missouri. She was listed as 47 years old, and born in Missouri. It was reported that she was age 23 when first married. She was living with her husband. [7]

Belle Cox appeared as wife in the household of Vader Cox on the 1940 U.S. Census at Kidder Township, Caldwell County, Missouri. She was listed as 58 years old, and born in Missouri. It was reported that the highest grade she had completed in school was grade 8. She was living with her husband, and her mother. [8]

Mary B. Cox died 18 November 1964 at Independence, Jackson County, Missouri. She was 82 years old. On her death certificate, it was reported that she was born 5 May 1880 at Carrollton, Missouri. Her parents were listed as Oliver Elliott, and Elizabeth Warren. The informant was Audrey Owen, of Independence, Missouri. [3] Though her name is engraved on a grave stone, with Vader Cox, in Highland Cemetery at Hamilton, Caldwell County, Missouri,[9] she was actually buried near the grave of her young son, in Buckner Hill Cemetery at Buckner, Jackson County, Missouri.[10] [11]
