David Ellis, s. of William Ellis and Mary "Polly" Elliott, b. Oct. 17, 1806 at Jefferson, now that part Hamblen County, TN. He d. Feb. 10, 1870 at Benton County, AR.

On Mar. 22, 1829 at Lincoln County, TN, David m. 1) Judiah (q.v.) Judith) Catherine Brown, dau. of William and Nancy Brown, b. Apr. 6, 1809 at Tennessee. She d. Jan. 20, 1840 at Ash Grove Twp, Shelby County, IL. By this marriage were born five children alternately at TN and Shelby County, IL: Nancy America (Ellis) Hood; Jesse Lewis Barton Ellis; Mary Ann (Ellis) Hood; Delilah Emaline (Ellis) Parks; William Benton Ellis; and Elizabeth C. (Ellis) Brady.

On Feb. 8, 1842 of record at Shelby County, IL, David m. 2) Margaret McEwen Dickson (q.v. Dixon), b. Mar. 4, 1815 at Tennessee. She d. Jan. 9, 1892 at Benton County, AR. They had seven known children, all b. at Shelby County, IL: Joseph Franklin "Frank" Ellis; Huldah Jane "Jennie" (Ellis) Woods; Martha Caroline (d.y.); Eleanor Mariah (Ellis) Paulk; James Alexander Ellis; Elvira Isabel (d.y.); and Margaret Terris (Ellis) Daily.
