Biography

Clair Harris Zarges: Eva is my grandmother.

Eva was born Sept. 14, 1888, in Worcester, Massachusetts. (5) (8)

Eva is listed in the 1900 Census in Worcester, Massachusetts. She was living with her family and was 11 years old; had attended nine months of school; and could read, write, and speak English. Her father (born in Maine) worked in a livery stable, and her mother (born in England) was at home. Eva had two little brothers, ages 9 and 7 at the time of the census, and one little sister (who grew up to be my Great Aunt Nellie, and who scared me a little when I was a child) age 2 at the time of the census. (1)(9)

Eva, her husband Albert and son Dan are shown as residing in Boston, Massachusetts in the 1910 U.S. Census. Dan is 2 years old. (2)

Also in the 1910 Census, the years for this marriage is listed as three, which gives us a starting point for finding a marriage record. (7)

Eva, Albert, and Dan are shown as residing in Boston, Massachusetts in the 1920 U.S. Census. Dan is 12 years old. (3) Eva is listed as being 31; Albert as "32 [35]."

Around 1930, Albert and Eva, together with Eva's sister Nellie and brother-in-law Jack Hayes bought a piece of property labeled parcel 8-A, formerly the Nims Homestead, in the town of Antrim, New Hampshire. They fixed up the building and The Harris Tavern appears for the first time on the tax rolls for Antrim in 1931. The property was valued at $5000 and the property annual tax was $199.50. The Tavern was in existence for only a couple of years, then disappears from the town report property tax rolls. (12)

Albert died in May 6, 1939, in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. (13, 14). He is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire, U.S.

In the 1940 Census, Eva, a widow, is living alone in a rental at 68 Wold Hill Street in Boston, Massachusetts. The rent was $35 a month. She had lived at the same address in 1935. Her highest grade completed in school was 8th grade. She did not work, nor was she seeking employment. She was 51 years old.

Eva died in May 16, 1943 in Winchendon, Massachusetts. (10). She is buried with Albert in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire, U.S. (4, 14)

Eva was buried in plot #46 at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire. (14)
