Elmer Eugene "Emory" Ellis, son of Lewis Harvey Ellis and Sally Selina Woodworth, was born on the 21 May 1822 in Aurelius, Cayuga, New York.^[1]

Elmer married first Jane Marie Halstead on the 23 Oct 1844 in Aurelius, Cayuga County, New York. To this union were born ten children; Harvey, Abraham, Adolphus, Ella, John, Alexander, Edgar, Evaline, Ernest, Jane and Lillian. Elmer married second, Rebecca Jane Trimmer, on the 13 Apr 1864 in Eaton, Michigan.^[2] To this union was born one child; Lillian.

Elmer passed away on the 2 Feb 1907 in Berlin Center, Ionia, Michigan.^[1]

Obituary

Elmer E. Ellis died in Berlin township, this county, last week.

He was father of Hon. A. A. Ellis, formerly of Ionia. Among others of a large family of children who survive him are two sons, one of whom is judge of the supreme court of Kansas, and another who is congressman from a district of Missouri.

Mr. Ellis was 85 years of age. He died from a stroke of paralysis.

A sister of Mrs. Ellis came to the funeral from Bellevue and while at her sister's she, too, was stricken with the same disease and died before she could be taken home.^[3]
