John was born John Ellis in 1832 Austonley, Yorkshire & baptised John Ellis on 3 June 1832 Holmfirth, Holy Trinity, Yorkshire the son of Robert Ellis (clothier) & Mary of Hinchcliffe Mil, Austonley. [1] [2]

A hand loom woollen weaver in 1851 with siblings & parents living in Yew Lane, Austonley, Yorkshire.[3]

The marriage of John Ellis (20) (Clothier) [of Hinchcliffe Mill] & Selina Bamforth (19) [of Hinchcliffe Mill] was conducted on 6 May 1852 Almondbury, All Saints, Yorkshire. Father of bride & groom noted as Joshua Bamforth (painter) & Robert Ellis (Clothier) [4]

A woollen spinner with wife Selina & children Sarah Ann (8), Angelina (7) Herbert (3) & Helena (1) in 1861 living in Hinchcliff Mill, Austonley, Yorkshire.[5]
