Esther was born in 1831 in Hamilton, Upper Canada. She was the daughter of Richard Ellis and Elizabeth Morley and was their seventh child but their first Canadian-born child. Her older siblings were born in Cropton, Yorkshire England.
On or before 1854, she married Scottish born John Stirton. Together they had ten children: James (1854), Richard (1855), William (1857), David (1860), Jennet (1862), Elisabeth (1864), Mary (1869), Joseph (1871), George (1873), and Agnas (1875).
Esther and John lived in Saugeen Township, Bruce County, Ontario in 1861 [1] and 1871 [2] By 1881 [3] they had moved to their final residence in Malahide, Elgin East. Esther passed away July 6, 1913 in Malahide, Elgin, Ontario, Canada.[4] She is buried with her husband John Stirton in Springfield Cemetery, Elgin, Ontario. [5]
