To all to whom these presents may come greeting; know ye, that whereas William MCCULLERS of the state and county aforesaid. Planter, by an intermarriage with Rachel COBB, late widow and relict of Joseph COBB, farmer, later of said County and State deceased, became seized and possessed of a right of inheritance in one third part of a tract of land on the water of Brier Creek containing two hundred acres as the dower of the said Rachel, which said land was originally claimed, possessed, improved and occupied by the said Joseph COBB in his lifetime and at his decease, and hath been since surveyed for and confirmed to the said Rachel COBB, by a grant from the hand of his honor, George HANDLEY, Esqr. Gov, and dated Aug 13 1788, recorded Book QQQ for 352 the 10 of the same William MCCULLERS and Rachel his wife for and inconsideration of 15 pounds paid by Ezekiel COBB, son of the said Rachel and Joseph COBB, hath sold him 200 acres. William McCULLERS (SEAL), Rachel MCCULLERS Witness: John TORRENCE JP, James MCCORMICK JP Recorded June 7, 1796.

On July 31, 1769, Joseph Cobb owned 100 acres on the Catawba River, in Craven Co., SC--land that had originally been granted to Benjamin Ellison Feb. 19, 1767. Rachel had adjoining land, and is probably the Rachael who married Joseph.

State of Georgia, Wilkes County, Recorded June 7, 1796; transcribed from p. 68-70, on May 12, 1853. Officially states that Rachel Cobb, remarried widow of Joseph Cobb,"became possessed" of 200 acres on Briar Creek as a dower for her marriage to William McCullars. It goes on to say that Ezekial Cobb, son of Joseph and Rachel Cobb, gave William and Rachel 15 pounds for the property. Joseph and Ezekial were in the same Rev. War company of Capt. John Hill at Fort Martin, GA commanded by Col Elijah Clarke. They were both given 287.5 acres for the Rev. War service. Rachael may have been married before marrying Joseph Cobb. She is thought to have been the widow of Benjamin Ellis. Benjamin Ellis and Rachael, his wife, sold the land where the spring was located to Joseph, or he got it through an intermarriage with Rachael. After Joseph Cobb died, she married William McCullers, and it is known she out lived him. In 1791 he is listed on the Tax Returns, but after that only the Widow McCullers is listed as paying taxes on the same lands.

Please check dates. Got married before birth.
Hey Stacy, Would you look over this profile. Joseph Cobb's wife's last name is in question and this profile has her married before she was born. Also I'm curious about her place of death. I think Rachael Cobb died in WIlkes County Georgia. Thanks, Allan
