When William Alva Elmer was born on May 16, 1873, in McPherson, Kansas, his father, Edcil, was 40 and his mother, Rosannah, was 32. He had two brothers and seven sisters. He died on June 17, 1955, in Wallowa, Oregon, at the age of 82, and was buried in Summerville, Oregon.
