"Monday March ye 30, 1778. In obedience to a warrant from Waterman Thomas, Esqr., of Waldoboro the inhabitants of Meduncook met & chose the following men into the following offices, Vis: William Elwell, Senr., Moderator; ....." [1] William Elwell Sr. is not mentioned in the Meduncook records after the March 30, 1778 town meeting. He may have died during the winter 1778 or spring 1789 when an epidemic proved fatal to many people in the colony.
