The son of Samuel Ely and Mary Day, Reuben Ely was born in West Springfield, Massachusetts in 1709.[1] He married, first, Lucretia (Minor) Ely; their children included:

Noah Ely (1751-1795)
Herman Ely (1755-1804)
Justin Ely (1757-)
Widowed around 1757, he married, second, Sarah (Kibbe) Ely, with whom he had at least one child, Israel Ely.
Reuben made his home in Hancock, Massachusetts.[2] passing away there[citation needed] at the age of 89 and is buried, or memorialized, at Noah Ely Cemetery in Hancock, Massachusetts.[3]

His first wife's last name is most likely *not* Minor. The Revolutionary War records are for his son, Reuben, Jr.
