Biografi

Biography

This profile was originally created as Erik Arsael Emundsson, with Arsael as preferred name. Someone then added Weatherhat as nickname.

It is difficult to know who the profile should actually represent. Erik (Edmundsson) Weatherhat is usually considered more mythical than legendary.

Perhaps it would be wise to keep this profile as-is for now.

Research Note

  • The only place I (Andersson-4409) have found Arsael is at MedLands where Erik Arsael is listed as one of the early legendary/mythological kings of Sweden.[1]
There is, for example, no mention of Arsael at heimskringla.no (an online collection of Old Norse source material). Neither is Arsael found at either Swedish or English Wikipedia.
It is possible that Erik Arsael really should be Erik Årsäll but that would place him around the end of the 11th century.
  • Ársæll is a male Icelandic name and Ársæl (one L) is a woman's name, though not very common but none listed on Íslendingabók are born before 1800.
  • Children of this profile Eriksson-1794, Eriksson-713, Eriksson-719 and Eriksson-365 has been disconnected. Andersson-4409 14:22, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
  • Relationships between historical figures could have been simplified or even fabricated in the text to give the impression that succession remained within the same family….Precise chronology is also difficult to assess from the Sagas….The conclusion must be that the tight family network described in the Sagas is unlikely to be correct and that the relationships shown below should be treated with considerable caution.

Munsö-2 and Emundson-1 are not ready to be merged because: Munsö is not correct LNAB, and Emundson should be spelled with two S. Eymundsson-1 is also a match and probably the best LNAB of the three.

Munsö-2 and Emundson-1 appear to represent the same person because: These profiles represents the same mythological "king" in Sweden. Nether LNAB is correct though, it should be Emundsson (with two s).
