Baptised: 27 Aug 1815 at Harrold, Bedfordshire, England
According to Mrs Verna Gale (nee Errington) Thomas was affectionately known as "KIng Tom" and was the son of the Duke of Clarence (who later became King George IV) and Mrs, Fitzherbert (nee Lady Errington). Apparently some of the relatives tried to prove the relationship but with no success. (source Brenda Kelly) This is no wonder as the claim is a complete myth. George IV who had a relationship with Maria Fitzherbert was the Prince of Wales, not the Duke of Clarence (who was his brother). Maria's maiden name was Smyth - it was her mother who was an ERRINGTON (from Beaufront Castle, Northumberland). Maria had no children, either by George or by her other 2 husbands.
This Thomas was the illegitimate son of Mary ERRINGTON a lacemaker of Harrold, Bedfordshire and someone called T ALLEN. Thomas, wife and 4 children were in Bedford Workhouse in 1851, but somehow got permission (and the funds) to emigrate to South Australia. (source Roger ERRINGTON One Name Study)
