Holem, 86, of El Dorado died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at a local nursing home. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, at the First United Methodist Church. She was born Jan. 13, 1917, in Cabool, Mo., the daughter of George Edward and Ida Faith (Kenoyer) Erwin. She moved to the Leon area as a small child. She attended the Leon schools and graduated with the Class of 1934. She was a graduate of the Susan B. Allen School of Nursing. On July 23, 1938, she was united in marriage to Ralph Holem in Electra, Texas. They celebrated their 50th anniversary before his death in 1988. During World War II, she worked as a nurse for the St. Joseph Hospital in Hot Springs, Ark. In 1979, she retired as a registered nurse from Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. She was a very faithful member of the First United Methodist Church, U.M.W., the church circle and Sunday school class. Other memberships include the Graduate Nurses Club, the Susannah French Putney Chapter of the D.A.R., the El Dorado Story League, the Merry Matrons, 50-year member of the American Red Cross, the Quest Club, past president of American Legion Auxiliary, and Bluestem Campers. She served as a Girl Scout leader and was on the committee that formed the Four Winds Camp She was a founding member and coordinator of the Candy Stripers. RoJean loved to sew, knit and be a caregiver to anyone in need. Survivors include a daughter, Jane Barrick of Wichita; a granddaughter, Noelle Barrick of Lawrence; a sister, Mercedes Hulse of El Dorado; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials have been established with the RoJean E. and Ralph W. Holem scholarship fund at Butler County Community College, or the First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be left with Kirby-Morris Funeral Home, which is in charge of the arrangements. El Dorado Times, The (KS) - Thursday, January 8, 2004
