Alfreida’s father, James, gave them a small parcel of land on the north end of his farm, on which they built a home. The picturesque location was actually on the toe of the Gatineau Mountain and has since been acquired by the National Capital Commission for the Gatineau Park expansion. The frame house was shaded by numerous hardwood trees and a small waterfall tumbled out of the mountain nearby.
