Biography

Estes to White - Bill of Sale, Jun 9, 1822 Caroline Co

Richard Woolfolk*, did by his will duly recorded in Caroline Co., leave to his daughter Nancy Estes, during her life a negro woman named Rachel & her increase, & at the death of Nancy to go to her children, the children of John Estes**.

John Estes now of Orange Co., & one of the sons of John Estes** and Nancy sells for $100.00 to George White of Caroline Co all his right, title, interest in the slave Rachel (& the 5 children of Rachel: Henry, Anney, Clary, Henrietta & Betsy), as under the will of my grandfather, Richard Woolfolk and which right will accrue after the death of my mother, Nancy Estes - my share being 1/6 (one sixth) of the estate as held by my mother.

(written on back of deed) At a court held for Caroline Co on the 9th day of Jun 1822, this bill of sale was proved in open court by Garritt Minor one of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. Teste: John Pendleton.

  • His grandfather - Richard Woolfolk's will was presented in Caroline Court - December 1795. He was born around 1715, wife was Mary Coleman.
    • His father - John Estes, Jr. b 22 Jul 1753 & died before 1798 in Caroline Co.
