Biography

Charlotte Estey was born on March 10, 1785,[1] in Sunbury, New Brunswick, Canada, her father, John, was 42, and her mother, Molly, was 34. She married Aaron S Hartt in 1810 in York, New Brunswick, Canada. They had eight children in 16 years. She died on February 26, 1868,[2] [1]in Kingsclear, New Brunswick, Canada, having lived a long life of 82 years.[3][1]

CHARLOTTE ESTEY was born March 10, 1785 and died February 26, 1868 , age 83 years, at Kingsclear, York County, N. B. , she married on July 18, 1810, to AARON HARTT born 1788 - died April 26, 1866, age 78 years, at Kingsclear, York County, N. B. , son of Mary ( Estabrooks ) and Samuel Hartt, a farmer at Springhill, Parish of Kingsclear, York County, N.B..

Aaron Hartt was the grandson of Jonathan Hartt of Lynnfield, Massachusetts, who had brought his family to the Township of Maugerville, on the Saint John River in Nova Scotia, during the early days of the settlement.

On March 27th, 1809, Samuel Hartt, the son of Jonathan Hartt and his wife, the former Mercy Hawkes, purchased Lot Number Seventeen, containing 750 acres, more or less, from the original grantee of the property, Cornelius Thompson. This lot of land, bordering on the south side of the Saint John River at Springhill, York County, N. B., was farmed by the Hartt family for nearly 100 years.

In his Last Will and Testament, Samuel Hartt bequeathed the lower part of his farm to his son, Aaron. For a short period of time Aaron took up residence near his half brother, the Reverend Samuel Hartt, in Carleton County, N. B., however, he soon returned to Springhill where he farmed his part of the Hartt homestead. At his decease, Aaron Hartt was interred at the Dunphy Cemetery in Kingsclear. [1]
