:From Rev. Fred Cochran:
: Our Joseph Evans married to Sarah McFarland was evidently a prosperous farmer for though he died in 1847 the 1850 census of Amwell Township, Washington County shows: Sarah Evans was 66 years, living with her Hannah, 29 years, and Ruth, 27 years, and with real estate valued at $5,400.
: The house and adjoining land now owned by Hayward Deneen (1977) was the original Evans Platt, the brick home just outside Ten Mile traveling toward the Pleasant Hill Church.
Joseph Evans, Sr and other members of his family were among the thirteen who transferred their letters from the Lower Ten Mile Presbyterian Church to the Pleasant Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Jan 22, 1833, when a total of 81 became charter members of the newly formed congregation. Joseph Evans Sr was also elected one of the thee Elders, Abner Clark, his son-in-law and Abel Milliken being the others.
: Much of our family history is interwoven with Pleasant Hill Church history for they were a family that worshiped God regularly and took an active roll in the church's life.
: Joseph and Sarah M Evans were married and no doubt lived their whole life in Amwell Township, Washington County. Sarah was the daughter of William and Hannah (Kelsey) McFarland. Eleven children were born to Joseph and Sarah. Joseph died February 3, 1847 in his 68th year. Sarah McFarland Evans died May 29, 1864 in her 80th year and was buried beside her husband in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
