Biography

Mary Cowperthwaite Evans was born on 21 Sep 1808 in Evesham, Burlington, New Jersey, USA^[1][2][3] as the daughter of John Evans (1774-1841)^[4] and Rebecca (Cowperthwaite) Evans (1778-1861) whose parents are Hugh Cowperthwaite (1744-abt.1808) and Rebecca (Roberts) Cowperthwaite (1750-aft.1786).

Mary C Evans and David Darnell (aka David Darnell (abt.1808-abt.1898)), ^[5], son of Edmund and Rachel Darnell of Evesham, married on 11 Feb 1836 (Cropwell Meeting (Marlton) under care of the Upper Evesham Monthly Meeting, Burlington County, New Jersey). David Darnell presented marriage intention during a Quaker Meeting in Medford and/or Upper Evesham and they proceeded with their marriage in Upper Evesham, New Jersey^[3] This marriage was further presented at the Philaelphia Yearly Meeting of Quakers.^[6] Burlington County, New Jersey on February 11, 1836 ^[7]

Children of David Darnell and Mary Evans were substantiated as follows^[8]:

i. Rebeca C Darnell Bell (1837 - 1893)^[5]; married James Bell.

In 1860, Mary age 52, was living in Mount Holly (P.O) Evesham Township, Burlington County, New Jersey with her brother Ezra Evans (1800-1879), age 60. Also living with them are their mother Rebecca (Cowperthwaite) Evans (1778-1861), age 82 and Sarah Mortland, age 17 (no relationship known).^[10]

Mary died at the age of 62, on 13 Feb 1871 in Evesham Township, Burlington County, New Jersey^[1][4][11] and was placed at rest in the Cropwell Friends Meeting House Cemetery in Cropwell, Burlington County, New Jersey, United States of America.^[3]

NAME: Darnall/Darnell spelling issue (not uncommon with the extensive family). May need to use aka when substantiated sources differ. I think that at this point in time, Darnell has been accepted as the surname for this family. A research note was also placed on profile Darnall-108 in case more informaiton comes through that route.
