DAR ID Number: 159662 John Evans (1738-1834)was a member of the convention, 1776, and, 1778, was commissioned colonel of militia. In 1832 he was placed on the pension roll of Monongalia County, Va., where he died. He was born in Fairfax County, Va. Also No. 152218 General Information: The Dents are pioneers of Monongalia County, moving here -- like so many, it seems -- from Loudon County, Va., in the 1770s. Dents Run was named for Capt. John Dent, who served under Col. John Evans with the frontier militia and in the revolution. -------- General Information: 8/16/97 I am searching for information on the parents of John (1) Evans who lived in Louden County, Va. and was bc 1704. He married Margaret ? and had one son, John (2) b 1737. John (1) died young of a rattlesnake bite and Margaret had their son educated around Alexandria, Va. When John (2) was older, he married Rebecca Ann Martin in 1763 and moved his family including his mother to Monongalia County, (W)V. John (2) served in the Revolutionary War and was known as Col. John Evans. He served as County Clerk in Monongalia County and was an early settler of Morgantown (W)V. My line follows his son, Dudley>Nimrod>James (who moved to Tyler County (W)V>George Marion>Clarence>George Marion (2). Any information will be greatly appreciated. Am especially interested in finding proof of James' birth to Nimrod and Elizabeth Graham Evans and of John (1) parentage. I understand they came from Wales and that John's father may have been David Evans who came to Philadelphia County from Wales. Contact Betty Riley[2]
his 1792 Monongalia County Court case, in which John Evans Jr. sued David Scott for Slander, may belong to this profile:
John was born in 1746. He passed away in 1821.
Revolutionary war pension records state that he was born December 7, 1738 in Fairfax County Virginia. He moved at age 13 to Louden Co, Virginia and then in 1770 to Monongalia County, Va, where he entered the service in 1778.
The deed record books of Lauden County have numerous mentions to John Evans as a witness and other minor records.
