Sandy Ewen: Sandy was raised in Kirkfield, Ontario however he did not get much education as he had to go to work at an early age. He began working by lumbering in the woods around Orillia, Ontario then after he & Margarette Munroe were married in 1905, he worked on freight boats on Lake Superior for three years. In 1911 he took his family west and rented a farm near Welwyn, Saskatchewan.
The next year Sandy and a friend went 200 miles north-west (walking a great part of the way) to a new area of the province to take up homesteads. Sandy's land was north of what is now the town of Kelvington. No post office there then so he got his mail at the Hudson Bay Post on Nut Lake. The family lived in a small log shack for two years then Sandy built a house of lumber from logs he cut near Greenwater Lake.
The Sandy Ewen family farmed the homestead for many years and there are still descendants living in the area.
