Biography

Deborah Exum was born about 1665, Isle of Wight, Virginia, she died after 1730, Isle of Wight, Virginia.[1]

Deborah is named "daughter Deborah Jones" in her father William Exum's 1700/1 will ("D. December 8, 1700. R. February 10, 1700/1"), her mother is Jane Wills.[2][3][4]

According to Wikipedia, Deborah Exum is the mother of Col. Edward Jones. [citation needed]

Marriages of Isle of Wight County, Virginia, 1628-1800, by Blanche Adams Chapman, page 26:

  • Jones, Edward and Deborah Exum daughter of William Exum, 1700. W. & D. B. 2, p.436. W. B. 3, p. 210 [5][6]

Note: In the Isle of Wight County, Virginia, 1628-1800, there was only one marriage for Edward Jones, plus there wasn't any records mentioning a Jane Harris or a Mary Batt.

Kathryn Gearhart, book: Allied Families Early Virginia Jones Families, 2009: She lists this genealogy:

Rowland Jones s/o Rev. Rowland Bartholomew Jones (1598-1665) and spouse: Alice.
That Rowland Jones was the brother of Quaker Siblings: Edward Jones and Susannah Jones Bressie.
That this Edward Jones of the Bruton Parish in County of Yorke (will written Oct 1690, proved Nov 1690) and Spouse Mary [no surname]
had son Edward Jones who married DEBORAH EXUM, d/o William Exum.
and that their son Edward Jones married the daughter of John Sugars. That in John Sugars will he mentions daughter Abigail Jones, giving her the land upon which Edward Jones lives. [7]
