Edward is the son of Roger Eyre, Esq. of Holme Hall (d. 22 Aug 8 Hen VIII, c. 1517; will date 07 Aug 7 Hen VIII, c. 1516) and Elizabeth "Isabel", dau. of Robert Barley, esq. of Barley.[1][2][3] He was age 30 in c. 1517.

Edward married twice. His first wife is Elizabeth, dau. of Ralph Reresby of Thrybergh, Yorkshire. He remarried to a woman named Alice. Hunter (1895), asserts that her brother was Robert Purseglove, prior of Gisburne, Yorkshire.

Note that Thomas of Dunston & Holme (d.15 Oct 1595) ... a child from Edward's second marriage ... is sometimes (although rarely) called "John".

Hunter (1895), describes John of Dunston as a, "zealous Catholic," who suffered during the reign of Eliz. I and is also the person to sell Whittington, Dunston and Holme Hall, (p. 555).[1]
