Note the birth date is circa 1700 for Elizabeth probably from London England. People are mistaking this Elizabeth Fettiplace with another infant Elizabeth Fettiplace who was born in June of 1708 at St. Micheal's Cornhill, in London England, this is NOT correct this other Elizabeth Fettiplace died as an infant, she was born again in June 1708 to to Richard Fettiplace and Mary Eads Fettiplace and baptized on 3 June 1708 and died a few days later and was buried on 9 June 1708 in the churchyard at t. Micheal's Cornhill in London England, records documenting this are extant and can be found at the London, England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 on Ancestry.com and on Family Search.com.

New Entry

Fettyplace, Fettiplace, F'eteplace

Elizabeth Fettyplace is the first wife of John Heaven the couple married on 19 Aug 1727 in Anne Arundel, Maryland, Elizabeth is the mother of all four of John's children.

Note: There are many family trees that have Elizabeth Fettiplace (the wife of John Heaven) baptized 3 June 1708 at St. Michael's Cornhill, London England and named as the daughter of Richard Fettyplace and Mary Eades, this is not correct.

  • Richard and Mary's infant child Elizabeth Fettiplace was baptized on 3 June 1708 and died 6 days later on 9 June 1708 she is buried in the churchyard of St. Michael's Cornhill London England, the child's father Richard Fettyplace died later that same year (1708).

Elizabeth Fettyplace was born circa 1700-1705 and was probably from Oxford England, her parents are not known, it seems she came to America circa 1717 as an indentured servant, she was assigned to William Douglas in November of 1717 as a house servant, whether Elizabeth traveled to America alone or with other family members and indentures is not known but seems unlikely.

Fettyplace regardless of its various spellings is a very uncommon name and records show the very few if any with the name of Fettyplace/Fettiplace living in America during Elizabeth's time and there are records for only one Elizabeth Fettyplace during this time living in Maryland. It is not known, not knowing the life Elizabeth was born into it can only be speculated why she chose to come to America as an indentured servant, the name Fettyplace was from a people of upperclass perhaps both her parents died which left her at the mercy of other family members it they existed and if there was no one to take her in her options were few, perhaps she chose to come to America to escape a bad home life or to find the promise of a better life in a new world.

Elizabeth and her husband John had four children:

1. James Heaven born 1728 married Mary Abigail (MNU) 2. Mary "Polly" Heaven born circa 1730 married Thomas Finley 3. John Heaven born circa 1732 died in 1782 married Mary Henderson 4. Howard Heaven b. 9 October 1734 died 13 Feb 1787 married Ruth Hall

Elizabeth's Husband A John HAVIN (or HAVENS Sr.), born between 1700 and 1706, Records indicate he came from the New Kent County, Maryland to Ausgusta County, Virginia and received a patent for land in Southwest Virginia in 1762. He first married Elizabeth FETTYPLACE, August 19, 1727 in Ann Arundel County, Maryland. They resided in Kent County, Maryland 1731-1741 where he was Deputy Clerk of Court and Schoolmaster, later to become Schoolmaster during 1747-1757 in Baltimore County, Maryland, during which time (after 1754) his wife Elizabeth died.
