When Elwood signed up for the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force, he gave his occupation as "farmer," his mother's name as Mary Fagan, his address as RRI Midland, and his birthdate as March 3, 1893.[1] Since every other source gives his date of birth as 1894, he may have wanted to appear older when enlisting.
