Research Notes

According to a user-entered pedigree on Family Search, John Wesley Fanning enlisted in the Confederate army on 29 Apr 1861. He was wounded on two occasions: accidentally shot in June 1861, shot in the foot at Second Manassas, Virginia in August 1862. In July 1863, he was captured at Greencastle, Pennsylvania; released in May 1865.

John W. Fanning's exact date of death is unproven, though several sources claim he died in 1901. He last appears in the 1900 US Census. I have not found any cemetery records on Find A Grave. ( Freeth-52 02:30, 14 April 2016 (EDT) )
