Biography

The earliest surviving record of Alexander Faries the elder is his claim for a debt owed him by the estate of William Faries who died in 1755. Although his wife's name is unknown, Alexander was the father of six sons John (married Ann Zelefrew), James (married Jean Adair), Samuel, William (married unknown), Robert (married Hannah Faries) and Alexander (married Janet James), and one daughter Jennet (married Robert McMurphey).

Alexander was a close neighbor of other Faries families in Pencader, but his exact kinship to them is unknown. Alexander signed his will on Sep. 12, 1783 and it was proved on Aug. 19, 1785.

Alexander the elder has often been confused with his youngest son Alexander the younger.
