James Farlow was born in 1645, this is known from his statements in a deposition taken in connection with a boundary dispute between Virginia and North Carolina. Based upon his testimony we know he moved to Carolina in 1681 and prior to this he lived in Virginia (Appomattox and Wyanoake) for 14 years, from 1667 to 1681. [7]

On March 15, 1672/3 James Thweate received 650 acres for transporting 13 people, including a James Farloe. Thweate also gave a deposition in the same boarder dispute as James Farlow in 1711. [8]

On March the 30th 1721 James Farlow Jr. showed that his father James Farlow obtained a patent for 250 acres lying in Chowan precinct for lands that become "lapsable for want of due seeding and planting, the Petitioner therefore prays a Lapse patent for the same." [9]

James Farlee of Chowan Precinct, North Carolina mentions his wife, but not her name, in his will. However, he left all of his lands to "James Bentley, son of Sarah Bentley". This will is dated May 1, 1727 and probated May 15, 1727.[10][11]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:

Apparently, the only known source of his origins is a 1902 Farley genealogy which provides no source for the identification of his parents. I've marked them as uncertain. Do you have any other sources (besides online trees) for his origins? Have any DNA results between Virginia Farley descendants been compared?

Should we detach the parents?

It seems to me the sources support the fact that there was two James, father and son. I suggest we created a second James profile then get the relationships and details matched with right person. I'm leaving a note here before making these changes to begin to document the changes. I don't want to step on any toes either. Thanks, John

James Farlee, Jr, was a jurist. His father, the senior James was already deceased in May, 1727.

Read the Petition of James Farlow Junr shewing that his Father James Farlow Obtained a patent for 250 Acres lying in Chowan precinct which Lands is become lapsable for want of due seating and planting the Petitioner therefore prays a Lapse patent for the same

Ordered that the same be granted

I might add that the James Farlow/Farlee Sr., is the father of the Sara Farlee you have entered on James Farlee's profile page, and not James, Jr.

This was Captain James Farlee. His children were: Samuel, James, Christian(a), Mary, and Sarah. This Sarah married Nathan Parker. The Sarah on your tree was a sister of my James Farlee/Farlow. The senior James Farlee made a will in 1727, These two James are often confused, but I have now proven they are father and son.
