Biography

Flag of Virginia
Henry Farmer II was a Virginia colonist.

Disputed Origins

A previous version of this profile attached him as son of Thomas Farmer and his wife Ann. If he was related to Thomas at all, he might have been his grandson, but the timing works hard against him being his son. We have detached these parents.

Birth

Henry Farmer was born in 1657 in Henrico County, Virginia,[1] the purported son of Thomas Farmer (may have been grandson).

1657, Henrico, Virginia, United States.[2]

Marriage

Henry's 1st wife is unknown. (Family Search family trees suggest her name was Mary Clarke, but there is yet no source to verify this.)

Henry married 2nd Hester (Unknown) Bass, widow of William Bass, after William's death. The exact date of the marriage is unknown but William's will was proved 1 October 1695 in Henrico County, Virginia.[3]

Land Transaction

On November 8, 1689, John Clark of Henrico County and Henry Farmer entered into an indenture concerning land.[4]

Death

He passed away before 1734 in Henrico County, Virginia Colony.[5]

Research Notes

There was a Henry Farmer in Jamestown in 1624, a servant of a man named William PIerce.[6] There appears to be no further reference for him. Is he another candidate for this Henry's father or grandfather?

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Henry by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Henry:

Is there a reliable source for the attaching of Thomas as son?
posted by Ken Spratlin
I am unaware of any primary, or good secondary, sources for any of the linked children. I quit looking some time ago. If anyone does find anything, I'd be very pleased to see it.
It was asserted by See Jim Farmer, "Thomas Farmer, Jamestown Adventurer: His History, Descendants, & Ancestors," in Pioneers along Southern Trails, Volume 3, 2006, at https://onedrive.live.com/?authkey=%21AChIJHeFAf9hdTU&cid=5799669D9CD62D52&id=5799669D9CD62D52%212908&parId=5799669D9CD62D52%21687&o=OneUp and at Genforum that Henry Farmer (1657-bef 1734) (Unknown-599414) was the stepson of Henry Farmer (Farmer-7667). The parents were Alice (Unknown-132931) and William (Unknown-599413), "Irish persons." After William's death, Alice married Henry Farmer, and her son took the stepfather's surname. Alice later married William Harris (Harris-754) and George Alves (Alvis-44). Her maiden name was not West; this was a different lady.

These profiles should me merged: Farmer-1054 and Unknown-599414, with LNAB listed as Unknown and CLN as Farmer; West-21120 and Unknown-132931 with LNAB listed as Unknown, CLN as Alvis, and Other Last Names as Farmer and Harris. The Henry Farmer of York County who married an Alice West was a different man.

Thank you! Jim Farmer's work is persuasive to me. I support the proposed merges and have removed PPP from this profile to allow them assuming Shirley agrees and there are no other objections.

I have no problems with PPP removal. This profile does need to be updated and the info posted by Katherine appears good.
Discrepancy of birth dates for Henry and his father is result of lack of proof to show whether Henry is son or grandson of Thomas. More sources would be welcome.
Shirley, any objections to detaching Henry from Thomas? Seems impossible that he was his son; MIGHT have been a grandson.

None whatsoever. I've thought for quite a while this was an error, but not sure what to do about it. One assumes mother Ann Farmer will be detached from Henry as well. And there seems to be a problem with duplicate profiles of Ann Farmer attached as wife to Thomas Farmer. Ages wildly different.
Detached both Thomas and Ann. Also project-protected so they don't get easily re-attached.

I posted a message to Thomas' profiles about all his wives. Please respond there. Thanks.

I have added a marriage record here, but the dates are off! and their son John is born 8 yrs. before the marriage. Need more input!!

Sounds like Hester Bass is a second wife. " .....Children of Henry Farmer are: +...2.....i......John3 Farmer, born about 1688 in Proctors Ck, Chesterfield Co VA; died Bef. 1770 in Chesterfield Co VA. +...3.....ii......William Farmer, born about 1690 in Henrico Co VA; died Bef. 1750 in Chesterfield Co VA. +...4.....iii......Henry Farmer, born about 1690 in Henrico Co VA; died about 1753 in Chesterfield Co VA. .....5.....iv......Thomas Farmer, born about 1690."

All of these children were born before Hester Bass, so who was the mother to Henry's children?
