Biography

Joel Farnsworth was born on May 28, 1759 in Groton, Middlesex, Massachusetts.[1] He was the son of Jonas Farnsworth and Thankful (Ward) Farnsworth.[2] As a child he and his parents emigrated from Massachusetts to Granville Township, Annapolis, Nova Scotia in 1760 as part of the New England Planter migration.[3] Joel was one of the many settlers in Granville who sold his land to Loyalists in the 1780s and relocated to Wilmot Township. [4] Joel's new land was in the Clarence section of the Township. He appears as the head of a Wilmot household in three censuses: 1791, 1794, and 1827.[5]

Joel married twice. His first marriage was to Abigail Fales in Granville in 1782. Abigail died in 1826, and Joel's second marriage was to Sarah (DeWolf) Perkins in Clarence on January 28, 1828. Joel died on August 11, 1843 in Clarence[6] and is buried at Pine Grove Cemetery in Middleton, Annapolis, Nova Scotia.[7]
