Biography

John was born in 1826 in Dartmouth and died in 1899 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He first married Mary Jane Corbin Dec. 7, 1857 and she died April 23rd of 1858. He next married my 1st Great Grandmother Rebecca Eaton May 2, 1876. She died Apr. 24th 1912 in Edmonton West while visiting her son Dr. William Oban Farquharson who had moved west with his wife Bertha. They had one daughter Elizabeth. She was returned to Nova Scotia and is buried alongside John at Camp Hill Cemetery.

They only had two children: William and Minnie (who was my Grandmother and married Robert Arden Brenton) John was a merchant in Halifax and a Sherriff. He was also recorded as running for a seat in the old Conservative/Liberal party (he did not win).

In 1851, John was residing in Salmon River/Westphal/Preston, Halifax with his parents in a family consisting of 1 male 20-30 [himself], 1 female 20-30 [Mary Jane, wife of John, Jr.], 1 male 50-60 [John, Sr.], and 1 female 50-60 [Mary, wife of John Sr.].[1]

John was shown in the Canada Census 1871 at of the Church of England. Buried at Camp Hill Cemetery Halifax, NS.

Farquharson-71 and Tarquharson-1 appear to represent the same person because: believe Tarquharson-1 is an error, name spelled wrong in source.and get rid of unconnected undated profile. I have put same birth and death year as potential merge for GDPR purposes.
