Biography

James Jacob Farrow was born 24 Feb 1807 in Scituate, Plymouth, Massachusetts the son of Abiel & Nabby Farrow.[1]

The 1850 census for South Scituate, Plymouth, Massachusetts at familysearch has the family name transcribed as "Harrow". However comparing the initial letter to the word "Farmer", James' listed profession, makes it clear the name is "Farrow". NB Albert, Alfred & Nabby appear on the top of the following page of the census. Nabby is not included in the transcription. They were all born in Massachusetts.

James J Farrow M 42
Lucy J Farrow F 41
Lucy J Harrow F 17
Sarah P Harrow F 13
William H Harrow M 10
Mary L Harrow F
Albert Farrow M 6
Alfred Farrow M
Nabby F 70 [2]

The 1855 Massachusetts State census transcribed at familysearch indicates they were living in a boarding house type situation. Looking at the image it appears they were their own household.

James J Farrow M 48
Lucy Farrow F 46
Gustavus H Farrow M 23 (brother, nephew, cousin?)
William H Farrow M 15
Mary L Farrow F 13
Albert F Farrow M 11
Alfred Farrow M 9
Nabby Farrow F 75

The next household listed in the image is also a Farrow family:

Rufus M 60
Deborah F 59
Mandana (Mondana) F 24
Abbee(Abba?) F 19
Louisa F 15
Roscoe Robinson M 18 [3]

Research Notes

Charles H Lapham appears on this 1850 census page some households up as an 18 year old shoemaker in the home of a Benjamin Horn(? Fern? Ford? see image 1855 census - Benjamin & Eliza Ford) a 37 yr old shoemaker. However he also appears as an 18 year old shoemaker on another 1850 census page living with his mother & her father,[4]
