Elizabeth was a daughter of Levi Fay and his secod wife, Elizabeth Hudson. She had a twin brother, Levi Jr. The Vital records of Marlborough, Massachusetts names parents for Elizabeth and her twin brother, Levi Jr as Levi and Lucretia, but that is incorrect. Levi's first wife, Lucretia Howe died June 11, 1778 before their births. Her father was remarried to her mother, Elizabeth Hudson on November 19, 1779. Elizabeth and Levi Jr were born July 24, 1781 in Marlborough, Massachusetts. She married Colburn Hartshorn the son of Ebenezer Hartsorn and Lydia Darling.
Her sister Catherine married Bradley Hartshorn the brother of her husband. Her husband, Colburn died October 25, 1840 and she is a widow living with her son John W. Harthorn and his wife and children in Lunenburg, VT in 1850. She died shortly after on October 6, 1850. She is buried next to her husband at the Lunenburg Corners Cemetery, Lunenburg, Vermont. Her death date is on her head stone.
